About
We love ferrets
Sugar and Spice is a small ferretry, on purpose. We aim to incorporate the following into our bloodlines: excellent structure, proper muscle mass, increased genetic variation, good proportions. We hope to produce fine and thoughtful examples of hardy ferrets from standard, micro, and EU hybrid lineage.
Currently, we are based out of Watertown, NY area.

Shoutout to our breeder mentors: We honor you and your essential contributions of knowledge! We hope to do your legacy proud as we begin to carry your torch in the genetics of the ferrets you have entrusted to SAS Ferretry.

About
Sometimes, people ask, "Why do you breed ferrets?"
In 2020, I already had ferrets, 1 purchased from a pet store, 2 adopted Marshall's ferrets, and 2 adopted jills who came from a hoarding situation in the southern US. I contacted Scarlett's Happy Dookers to apply for a kit after seeing the most beautiful ferret on Scarlett's website, a champagne jill named Minuet.
Once I was approved and Scarlett had kits to choose from, we arranged for a visit to select and bring home my new baby jill. We had spoken about the possibility of my breeding ferrets in the future, but I was undecided. When I arrived, I took a look at the black roan mitts I had been interested in, but when I locked eyes with a gorgeous sable jill kit, I felt a connection and I asked if I could purchase her instead. Scarlett agreed, and I brought this jill home, already in love with her.

About 5 months into owning this jill, I told Scarlett I wanted "50 more ferrets just like her" and that's when I knew I wanted to breed ferrets--specifically, this perfect ferret, SHD's Genesis of SAS. She became my first breeder jill and one of the foundational stock of Sugar and Spice Ferretry.

Genesis is still one of the models I reference for what I aim to produce insofar as structure and temperament. Her blood remains in the program and I promised her directly that I would do everything in my power to ensure it's continuation.
